Ladies, You Might Like Project Management

There are many reasons why project management is a great career. Although it is a job within male-dominated industries, women still belong in project management and may find a career they love. The description of a “project manager” is about as clear as it sounds: a project manager is tasked with the daily management of different projects of a business. Project management is all about applying knowledge and solving problems, which are skills that may come naturally for some women.
Read on for just a few reasons why project management could be a perfect fit for your skill set.
Increasing Demand
The job market for project management is growing at a fast rate. The demand is growing more quickly than other occupations, offering an outlook of 33% growth through 2027 with a predicted 22 million project management job openings. The salaries are competitive, the work has variety, and project managers are highly valued members of the business as they keep the workflow running smoothly (oftentimes behind-the-scenes). Ladies, there is a need in this industry, and it is filled with dynamic opportunities.
Industry Variety
There are a lot of project managers in the information technology industry. If that is not your area of expertise, there are also project management roles in business, finance, communication, manufacturing, construction, marketing, product development, recruitment, education, and more. Essentially, any industry that has high scale operations and agendas to accomplish in a timely manner is likely going to have project management roles. It is worth researching job opportunities in different industries to see what would work best for you.
The variety of work presents great opportunities for growth and community across project management. The main skills required to be a project manager fit into three areas: technical, leadership, and strategic business capabilities. Since project management is all about concepts and strategy, it is helpful to grow those skills practically and then be able to transfer them into different industries or roles if need be.
Impactful
Another reason why women may really enjoy project management is the impact of their work. Project managers can create change in organizations, impact employees daily, and be an asset to the company’s business growth. Even though the profession of project management is full of predominantly male employees, women can still exemplify amazing leadership skills while enjoying the work they do. The result of a project provides the “big picture” meaning to workers. However, without the leadership of a project manager, that vision can be lost among the little tasks between employees. If you have great communication skills that can enable unity across the operations team, this might be the career path for you.
